ChessVibes on tour - next stop Mainz
17.08.2007 - The website www.chessvibes.com has become a very popular chess website, mainly due to the entertaining videos that can be viewed on the site. During the months May, June, July and August it’s ChessVibes on tour! Editor-in-chief Peter Doggers took the time to spend all his energy (and money) on the game of chess for four months. He did play many open tournaments throughout Europe and at the same time published many reports. On Wednesday Doggers arrived in Mainz and shot a very nice video about the FiNet Chess960 final between Levon Aronian and Vishy Anand.

Aronian wins Chess960 World Championship in dramatic match against Anand
17.08.2007 - When Vishy Anand and Levon Aronian sat down to play their four game match for the title of Chess960 World Champion it was hard to name a favorite. Both are excellent rapid and blitz players and though Aronian in contrast to Chess960 newcomer Anand has already shown his skills in this form of chess, most people thought Anand’s speed of chess thinking should make up for this. But everyone agreed that it would be a tough and exciting match. And they were right: The final of the FiNet Chess960 World Championship was packed with drama, mystery and fighting chess. more...

Aronian Wins FiNet Chess960 Rapid World Championship
Exciting match at Chess Classic
16.08.2007 - Today, Anand and Aronian played a four game match at the Chess Classic for the title of FiNet Chess960 Rapid World Champion, which finished only minutes before midnight. The rapid match was drawn after four exciting games and thus a two match blitz-tiebreak had to be played. Here Aronian had the better of it and won the blitz match 1,5:0,5 to become Chess960 World Champion. The match for third place between Etienne Bacrot was dominated by Bacrot who won 3:1. Games and report will follow…

Anand and Aronian Qualify for Final in FiNet Chess960 Rapid World Championship
15.08.2007 - If you looked closely at the pictures from the first day of the FiNet Chess960 Rapid World Championship you may have discovered the tiger on stage and maybe wondered what it was doing there. A reminder that the Chess Classic Mainz are organized by the Chesstigers? A tribute to Vishy Anand, nine times winner of Mainz and nicknamed “Tiger of Madras”? Something to do with the children’s tournament? None of the above. Today a second tiger joined the first and it turned out that they simply count the number of tournament days. But they could also be seen as a symbol for the strong performances of Anand and Aronian. more...

Aronian Shines on First Day of Chess960 FiNet World Championship
14.08.2007 - When Freddy Mercury declares to be one of a group of champions, the top players in Mainz know that things are starting to get serious. Traditionally, in Mainz the famous Queen-song signals the beginning of the round: The players go on stage, sit down to study the – this time unknown – position and the hall is darkened. The spectators fall silent to focus on the games shown on two huge screens towering above the stage. Those who look for some expert comment and do not trust the whispered comments by their friends put on their headphones to listen to the analyses of GM Artur Jussupow and GM Fabian Döttling. Or they just throw a glance on the two monitors in front of the stage, on which the computer program Spike reveals how he thinks, or rather calculates, the position should be evaluated. more...
